Just to share my new purchase.

After being thoroughly impressed by the kiron 105mm I've been browsing the internet to find some other great old lenses.

Think I might have another keeper. (just arrived at work so I'll have to wait till this evening before I can try it)

It's a Vivitar Series 1 - 70-210 f3.5 macro focussing lens (1:2.2 macro) from 1975 (made by kiron) and it looks brand new.

I'll post some result of this new plaything.

Ronny

Hi Ronny,

Congrats. I looked out for one of those for quite a while, just from the reputation -- never did find one. It took forever to figure out which version was which. . . did find a Cosina version really cheap so I bought it, and tho it's not quite the same, somehow it cured my Jones for the lens. Sounds like you got a great deal, as these are relatively rare and highly sought out. I later found a really inexpensive A 70-210/4, so I'm not hurting for a great reasonably fast MF lens in this range.

Looking forward to seeing some pics from this classic.

Congrats on the lens - definitely post some examples taken with it.

I still miss my Pentax F 70-210, one of the sharpest lenses I used to own, and the one I used the most.

Well. Look forward to some great images. Your heading is kind of weird. LBA does not have criteria on value of lens. You may have LBA for a $5,000 lens the same as one costing $1.
I have a lot less interest in acquiring new or old lens now my line-up is more than complete (for my bag anyway). Last one I had is a F50mmF1.7. Also I have placed an order of DA40mm with Henry but looks like that takes a while.

Thanks everybody, got home just in time to get some shot's.
Daniel, I'm just kidding myself with not having lba, and this lens doesn't make it easier :-)

The lens works great, only in the range 70 - 125 it only focuses on a short distance. Don't know if this is normal but from 125 up its ... just see for yourself.

[edit]just found out I had the lens on its macro setting so still need some testing[/edit]

Subject, a California glory in my garden, distance ca 4 - 5m, focal length 210, f3.5
All shots are jpg straight out of the camera, (default settings)

Slightly resized and cropped.

Sorry for the large sizes but I thought it would show better what the lens can do.

Real nice shots, and you didn't blow the yellows.

Looks like a real good lens to keep.

Congrats, for lens and shots! I worked with in the end 70s and it's wonderful, but not so friendly! Try and you enjoy it!

very nice ronnie,
it's weird about the close focus range. my v3, komine, f2.8-4 had the close focus at the 210mm range. i still think the A70-210 f4 is a tad sharper. you're going to really like this lens.
