We went swimming this afternoon (still haven't seen that gator back) and after we got out I saw this mama wood duck cruise by with her family in tow and hide in some of the grasses behind my neighbors house. I grabbed the camera and started stalking, pretty much exactly like Roger except I make more noise and I was only wearing a towel wrapped around my waist. (Hey Roy, does that mental image toplying in my driveway in acop uniform?). Anyhow, I did manage to get close enough to get some shots with the Sigma 70-300 before she became miffed and moved off again. I could not count her covey while they were moving, but the pictures later revealed she had eleven ducklings in tow.

This is really cute, great capture.
I heard they took the gators out of the protected species. I am no fan of them. Hope the ducklings won't get noticed.

I am sure what really happened is the duck called 911 and reported a FLASHER. This proves you always have to be ready dressed or not.

TOTALLY WACKY roger

Hi Tim,

Nice work. I so rarely see Wood Ducks, and have never seen babies, much less get close enough to get shots like these.

I am so jealous. I've been looking for baby ducks or geese for weeks for a "spring" photo contest. I guess too much rain, as haven't seen a one. And, the deadline was Tuesday.

Nice images you have here. Good job!

What cuties! The babies are so squished together at that age, they are darling.
