Ooooh, yuck! I don't like ants - they bite, invade everything and are impossible to kill off. I don't think you'll find me trying to focus a lens that close to one. The shot is brilliant though.

Hi Kjell! Thank you and yes, it is sand. Most central Florida soil is sand. This ant was near the lake where the sand is nice, clean, and white.

Thanks everyone for looking and commenting. And I just realized that I passed 1000 posts nine (well ten by the time I post this) posts ago. I had planned to invite you all to asmall celebration, send gifts to those who could not attend, and buy myself a new lens. Now, sadly, that opportunity isforever past and wasted . Well, maybe I canstill buy myself a new lens!
