Nice sharp head shot....

To bad not just a bit more light to get to 1000th or more (I assume f/2.8 was max).and freeze the wings just a bit more (some blur would still be nice), but darn, very nice.

great try ron and almost perfect. i know how tough these are and how almost impossible to get. i think you need to upgrade to off camera flash. it'll open up a whole new area for you. keep posting. this one's great.

Stunning capture!

Looks like a bomber angling in for a run!

Well I might diagree there ROY, I have no desire to see the wings frozen (as a flash might) just less blured...SOME motion is ESSENTIAL to the shot... just maybe to bad not a 1.7 lens.... though then DOF would be much shallower.... and a real FUZZY BUTT shot

Thanks Hayward,

yep the kiron105 doesn't go better than the f2.8, the blur of the wings is also strange, now it seems that it's flying on the right one only

Thanks Roy,

I've been looking for a flash some time now, only my funds have been a bit low lately.

Thanks Kjell,

the set up was easy enough,

there were some of these hoverflies in the garden, so I thought why not try to get them. So the next minutes (a lot of them) I went chasing for a shot.
Camera on Aperture priority, the kiron is manual focus so after trying to get as close as possible I set the lens to a 1:2 macro settings. And the rest of the time just trying to get close enough and get the fly in focus.

This was the only one of 100+ that was descent enough.
