Ben,

Any luck on that e-mail for the petition to get rolling?

I have been reading up on this and there isquite a bit of material and it is still on-going.

Itdid state that there would be a renaming if they did do the merger. Much like what Konica-Minolta did. Hoya-Pentax. Not a nice ring to it at all.

The car producer previously known as Volvo was bought by Ford, and now makes cars that are sold under the brand name "Volvo". What's so difficult about that?

Ill sign, but Im starting to think I made a mistake and should have went Nikon considering all the turmoil surrounding Pentax now. Sucks, I want to buy another K10 body and one of the new * zooms coming out but with all thats going on with the merger and uncertain future at Pentax I'm waiting. In the mean time Nikons looking better and better. If Hoya wants to continue the Pentax line, they better make that known and damned fast.

I believe that few here understand that this merger, or should I say take-over, might result in "asta la vista" for Pentax. A petition is a good idea and this thread should be the most vital of all, surprisingly, it isn't...

It could mean many things for Pentax, including an end to the camera line. It could also result in a serious infusion of capital into the camera division. The camera division could be spun off entirely or left to languish. It really depends on what Hoya is envisioning for that division. From what I have been able to read thus far, the focus of the merger is on Pentax's medical imaging division but there has not been anything concrete concerning Hoya's plans for the camera unit.

I would wager that Hoya will pay little attention to a petition, they are going to look at the bottom line and how competitive they believe Pentax Dslrs will be in the market. The best way to influence Hoya would be to buy another body or lens.

Tim

PS: But I would still sign,a petitionsure would not hurt.
