I think you have already had an answer to this one.

Very rare and very sought after. Therefore very expensive.

Hi Hayward,

Look at what they want for a new 50mm f2 lens. That place has been having a lot of star lenses lately forsale.

I can't afford the shipping let alone the lens..... LOL!!!

Not the best lens Pentax ever made, but one of the rarest, therefore the high price. FA* 80-200 f/2.8 went for far more than that last week.

The A* 84 f/1.4 is a better lens, but not as rare so it only goes for around $1,000 on ebay. Not much more than what they get for the limited lenses, and supply and demand rules.

A used 56 chevy convertabel cost about $2,500 new and a mint one goes for $50,000 now.

I think the fact that it is a very fast (1.8 ) 8) lens for a 135 is why it's so expensive.

The best Pentax lens I've used is my 35 mm - 35 to 105 Zoom macro which has taken many extremely clear shots and a lens I rented a 90 mm leaf shutter portrait lens for a Pentax 6 X 7.

Well ya know its only 1 stop faster than my recently acquired "common" 2.8 $35 135mm

Is it REALLY $1400+ better.... and ok its an A mine is a M.... again a fairly minor diference.

And maybe I am odd but I see almost ARTIFICIALLY sharp shots just from lenses not PP (yet appearing was).... as very unnatural... maybe you're into that.... OK.... maybe pretty but not natural.
And yet they make $$$$$ intentionally SOFT lenses.... not that a filter couldn't do that near as well.... whatever floats or sinks your boat.

Again is that difference really worth a $1400+ IF YOU AREN'T A PRO AND CAN COST IT OUT/TAX DEDUCT IT??? Little I've used it that $35 JCPenny 2.8 135mm is prettyr darn sharp (even at 2.8 ) and fast.

There's an easy solution here for you my friend – don't buy it!

Notice I did not but some one did.... crazy as it seems I LOVE MY 50mm 1.4 A but it is amazingly sharp.... especially at prime 2.0 or so, but not unnaturally so.

Ant it cost me like $130 or so.

Sorry I just don't get the $1500 more for just WHAT??? AGain you can write it off somehow OK but other wise..... how do you justified REAL nice 1.4 50mmm $125 vs $1400 more expensive hardly a long (135) lens just don't get it.... and again some GREAT lenses are just abnormally seeming overboard PP sharp.... and you pay an extra $1200 bucks for that?
