Maybe not on earth, but certainly the most frustrating little fellow in this part of Arkansas. Some weeks ago, I caught my first glimpse of a Yellow Breasted Chat. This little guy is the largest, and loudest, member of the warbler family, and his incessant "song" consists of the strangest mix of calls, clicks, and other noises I have ever heard.

They get their volume by filling their air sac in their throat when they sing.

You can see one of these fellows from 50 yards because of the brightness of the breast, but this guy has consistently remained just out of range of my lens. That is, except for the times he has snuck in behind me and let loose a call, then flown away when I tried to wheel around. I have probably tossed more than 200 bad pics of this guy.

For some reason, today he decided to cooperate. In addition to posing on the branch in Pic #1, he came down to the ground to forage around a brush pile.

I didn't mean to post the same pic twice, and the software wouldn't let me delete the second one. This is the one that was intended.

This guy makes me appreciate the Indigo Buntins, who practically pose for me.
