Anyone used this flash with the *istD or *istDS? I just recently traded my K100D for a BNIB *istDS mainly to be able to use TTL flash metering. (gives the ability to use older flashes and use AUTO flash with Manual lenses)

I found a great deal on an AF-500FTZ and Pentax off camera sync kit... I was just wondering if anyone had experiance with this set up before I buy it?

i use the af400ftz on my DS with off camera sync cord all the time. it's a great combo. the 500 should be even better because it's more compatible with the D & DS. if it's a good price then go for it. i got a great deal on the 3m cord and two adapters for $50. best money i ever spent.

The 500 doesn't need both adapters, it has the port to plug the cord directly into it. The set-up I am trying to talk the wifey into consists of the AF500FTZ, Sto-Fen OmniBounce, Pentax 3' Ext Cord, PentaxHot-Shoe Adapter, and Quantum Power Cord (to attach Quantum battery pack)... for $120 shipped.... good deal?

I have the 500FTZ and use it with my DS. It's a great flash -- powerfull, lots of advanced features, and good build quality. They normally go for $100-150 used, so I would consider the flash and just the Omnibounce a good deal at 120, if the gun is fully functional and in good shape. Realize that the D is supposed to have better functionality for its TTL flash support than the DS. It's said to work at a greater range of aperture and ISO settings. Never had a D so I can't say for sure, but for me, it's worked great on the DS and at ISO 800, which is beyond the stated ISO range of 200-400.

I have two and they work great on my DS, one on a bracket with adapter and the other as a slave. They don't work worth a darn on my K10D though.

One more downside -- no Auto mode. It doesn't have a sensor on the gun. I thought it strange because the AF280FTZ does and the 500 was the top of the line. . .

that's odd as my 400 has a sensor.
