As you can guess it gets close to the 4th of July all over again:-)

This evening I went to our annual grand parade and thought I share some pics with you. Pretty cloudy evening so I had to shoot mostly at around ISO 800 with K100d.

This is my favorite at ISO400, 200mm with DA 50-200mm:

These are not bad either:

The Army was there...

same for the police department...

and the firefighters..

the Media...

and the politicians.

Thanks for looking,
Soren

All of the cool pict. My fav is the first no doubt. Well composed and timely.
Is that the trial for the Jul 4 parade or actually a parade in your town?

That is no politician, he is a talk show host.

Great shots, I like the zoom shot of the fire truck.

Those are nice shots Soren and a nice window on small town America. I just can't get over all the people wearing sweatshirts in June. I really need to get a summer place in Minnesota!

Thanks guys.

This is the actual parade. The only thing happening on the 4th of July is fireworks (hope to be there). We had a pretty rainy week with thunderstorms and such which
canceled many scheduled activities. Hope to catch the hot-air balloon launch tonight.

The last pic is of Al Franken, talk show host and comedian, and now a candidate to US Senate. The only reason I took pictures of him was because of the celebrity status (I do not care much for politics - hope no one minds).

I wish I had a 70-200mm F2.8 lens: the autofocus was all over the place and ISO above 400 is too noisy (I know K100D is the best there, still...).

When I saw the guy above showing up I thought: maybe I can cash-in and sell some news worthy shots. As the luck has it, I had the 50-200mm mounted which is rather aperture-slow plus the batteries were depleted - terrible autofocus. The fact that he was shaking hands left and right did not help either. Live and learn.

Forgot to add: the minnesotans have a weird sense of politics at times. A number of years back they elected as governor Jesse Ventura the guy acting in Predator next to Arnold. He showed up wearing fatigues at one of the debates. Can't wait to see what will happen this time around:-)

Thanks for sharing, Soren.

The two first and "Media" are absolutely my favourites.

If I had the right to vote in US elections Al Franken would get my vote!

Soren, I think ut's the first time you have used your name in a post. Living in Minnesota and bearing the name Soren, does that indicate a Scandinavian heritage?

I was born in Europe but my parents were no Scandinavians. Frankly, not sure where I got the name from. Long, complicated story. I know what 'Don't be a Soren' means thou:-)

these are all really great shots, thanks for sharing! the first one is so good it gives me that lba itch for a da 50-200! really great composure on the first two shots. and the fire truck is just freakin awesome! i tried something like that with not so good results. but my favorite is the police department honor guard. something about the serious look of the guys, the black uniforms with the yellow trim, the white gloves and of course the colors of our flag. well done!
