I managed to get some time up in a Military helicopter here in Timor.

Spent most of the time hanging out the door shooting everything with two cameras.

This is the pilot and co-pilot going over their start up procedures.

K10D 28-70mm f/2.8. shot at 70mm f/4.5, 1/100th sec, ISO200

This is the pilot having a good look about as we are taking off. The co-pilot was doing all the flying.

This is the Jesus Statue, erected by the Indonesian Government, similar to the statue in Brazil. Statue faces towards Indonesia.

Popular with anyone who comes to Dili. Not many people get to see it at these angles.

A little closer.

We circled the statue about three times and I just kept taking shot after shot, changing cameras and hoping to get just the right angle of light and framing.

I think some people call it machine gunning. :ak47:

I don't normally shoot that way, but when you are guest on a chopper, you don't tell the pilot how and where to fly just so you can get a better shot.

That's what I'd call a photo op! And you really used it well.

How much time did you have up there? What about vibration? When do I get to do the same? Is it the Pentax lens? (envy, envy, envy)

Nice to see some postings from you again Crashman! You nailed the composition on the last image of the Jesus Statue against the back drop of the Indian Ocean (?). What a great opportunity to shoot from the air...I'm envious!

Wow! Wonderful shots, all of them. One regret I have is that I wasn't interested in photography the couple of times I got to ride in a Huey. It really is quite amazing to bein theseat facing the side, with the doors open and not much floor between your feet and the outside (though at the time I was stationed in Texas so was being flown over Texas ranch land - not half as interesting as your trip).
