We have had a yard full of Fritillaries in past years, but the passion vines they breed on were taking over the yard and we had to cut them back. We hadn't had any this year until this week, when a much worn female showed up and began laying eggs. As luck would have it, we were on Monarch watch when she came by and I was able to grab a few shots while waiting for the emerged Monarch to take off - after it did, the Fritillary was gone, too. Interestingly enough, she deposited her eggs on the vine's tendrils, rather than the leaves. With any luck we will have Fritillaries again.

Interesting shots of a lovely butterfly, even if she's been a bit beat up (I feel like that some days...).
