Daniel - I notice the rough bokeh mostly when the OOF background is something like pine needles or weeds that are strongly textured and fairly close to the subject. If you add any USM orother sharpening at all itgets really bad. The squirrel picture (the thread about friends and flowers in the neighborhood) has the background blurred because it looked so terrible after I sharpened the squirrel (DOF wasn't quite big enough so some of it was a bit soft compared to the front paws). But I've noticed the same thing with the A*300 - when you have a sharp lens it is hard to sharpen the subject without getting really weird effects on the OOF areas.

The Sony F717 I had came with a tether on it's lens cap and I loved having it. I bought a generic one for the FZ30, but haven't used one since. The funny thing is that I never lost a lens cap while I had a film camera, but lost two or threeof them not long after getting the DS.

I have been wanting to do this for years & finally, I have an excuse! Just wish it was an original thought but I always remember MASH's Col. Potter'spainting of his thumb &how cool it looked!

Thanks for the excuse!

Daniel, thanks for sharing...I couldn't think of a more fitting locale for a giant thumb...the center for modern art. I bet that it really cool when it is lit up at night.

Both of those pictures get two thumbs up from me! Why is it that I don't think theDaniel's pictureis what they had in mind in Windows explorer, where it gives you the option of seeing the file as "thumbnails"?
