Captured a few images from the Boone County Fair in Burlington, KY last weekend. Since I was planning to shoot in available light, I used the 50mm f/1.7 lens. As always, I welcome any comments. Jay

Part of the Horse Show at the fair.

One more from the Horse Show

Tried this one of the Ferris Wheel

It would be quite a ride if Ferris Wheels actually spun this fast!

Very nice! Actually makes me appreciate trotters. (slow motion horse racing)
And actually always thought of KY as a thoroughbread horse industry.

Where in KY is that? Since you're in OH guessing central to eastern foothills.

Heck KY even has your airport... NIOBY :? (Was it ever actually in OH back when planes were smaller and traffic much less)?)

Real nice shots.

If that is with the manual focus lens, then you can focus accurately a damn sight quicker than I can!!

Boone County is in Northern KY (across Ohio River from Cincinnati) and is considered Greater Cincinnati. I actually live in Boone County--just easier to tell folks I'm from the Cincinnati area. Well, now that I have divulged that, I'll go ahead and change my location to Boone County, KY

The main airport has always been in KY even when the planes were smaller and traffic much less! Today it is Delta's second largest hub.

You are correct in that KY is known for the ThoroughbredRacing; but there is plenty of variety to go around. I was amazed at this show as to how fast these horses trot--looks darn right dangerous! Jay

Thanks Dal! I was suprised myself that the focusing turned out so well. I was shooting t wide open aperture (i.e. shallow dof)...just got lucky I guess! I really like the characteristics of the lens--the manual focus is a worthwhile price to pay in exchange for the results!

All real nice shots Jay. I think manual focus is actually better for a lot of action shots since then lens does not hunt for focus. I really like the color and composition of the third shot.

Thanks Tim. I chose to shoot image no. 3 at dusk vs. waiting for the sky to get completely dark. I think it resulted in a nice color balance: the difference is visible when compared to image no. 4 which has some visible noise. The 50mm f/1.7 is the best 50 bucks I've ever spent!!
