here's what i want to do. i want to make a flash extender similar to the 'a better beamer'. i've done some research that has told me how far away from the flash head the Fresnel lens need to be. i've got 2 that measure 2'' x6'' . i'll probably cut them down to 2x4''. these need to be placed about 4.75'' away from the front of the flash head. these are made to magnify text in a book, etc. they are a stiff thin plastic..

what i need is suggestions about how to build a container that would support these light weight lenses and attach to the flash head.

Better Beamer

Have you considered 1/4" x1/4" aluminum angle stock??..

Glued & or screwed together..Mitered at the corners..

Perhaps with aluminized black plastic for the top, bottom, & sides to minimize the light loss as it travels towards the fresnel lens??..

Bruce

Also might be able to design it so that the lens is removable so that you could use it for different purposes??..

P.S. how hot does the flash head get when used in continuous mode??..

that's an idea but i think 1/4'' would be way overkill. worth thinking about..

Perhaps 1/8" x 1/8" aluminum stock??..

The 1/4" stock would give you more surface area to glue or screw to..

Also, when I was a kid with aquariums my father taught me that you could "weld" plastics with acetone..

Only drawback was that it turns clear plastics cloudy..

Process was probably changing the molecular structure of the plastic, although I never encountered any problems at the time..

Don't know what effects it had on the plastics strength, never did any tests ..

One of my duties is leading the hostage negotiation team for my agency. We are currently outfitting an old school bus to be our negotiation command vehicle and we are covering all the interior space with white boards. Unmounted white board material may work for your purposes, it is both rigid and reflective. Of course, I am a "pay someone who knows what they are doing to do it for you" kind of person, the opposite of a do it yourselfer, so take my advice with a large grain of salt.
