Soaking in warm water with Lemon Pledge also takes the tarnish off silver, so I can't help but wonder what it might do to some lens coatings, or even the glass surface over time. If you use a filter or clear glass protector and it gets scratched, you can throw it away and replace it (or use the pledge on the filter). It won't degrade the image as much as a bunce of accumulated scratches on the lens. Anybody remember what Kodak lens cleaner did to thefirst multicoated (Vvivitar VMC) filters? Or what Sight Savers did to lens coatings? I'd be careful about putting anything other than warm breath on a lens surface unless it was already ruined, in which case it doesn't matter any more. Just my opinion, perhaps borne out of excessivecaution.

P, the lense in question is not coated.
my specs are allways scratched with hundreds of very tiny scratches due to the enviroment i work in. i can't believe what it's done for them.
