I used a little Photoshop magic on this, but it turned out pretty cool. The moon in this shot was photoshopped, I copied a properly exposed moon and pasted it on top of the over-exposed moon in a shot where the courthouse was properly exposed. Let me know what you think.

Spooky!

Good effort, rewarding result.

But: could you downsize the picture another 100 pixels on the height? I've got a big screen (19"), but I can't see the whole picture without scrolling up and down.

good attempt

not sure about the white ring around it, maybe make the moon bigger?
and the "white" craters look a bit odd

but it is a great idea

I kinda like the white craters, but I understand why they look wierd. I don't know if this is small enough for the page, but lets see how it works. I'm not sure if I can blow up the moon, but I might be able to cut out the moon in the background. I might try that.

Now the size is OK.

I think you should keep the white ring and the craters, that's what make the picture IMO.

The only other thing I don't like about the shot is the power lines in front of the clock. thanks for the comments

You can clone out the power lines quite easily.

If you used PhotoShop, then when you pasted in the moon, it should have been pasted into a second layer.

Select that layer and then select the moon, once you have it selected you can free form the selection and stretch it to cover the ring.

But only if you wanted to. :O

Very very cool shot.

As we are chucking in suggestions, could you straighten the church a bit, as it looks drunk.

Dal

Edit

I realise my error. The church should be at an angle - sometimes I should think before i type.

The OFFICIAL way to have a moon in the background of a nightshot is to to just what you did.. double exposure in film or pshop two shots, so there's nothing to feel bad about there.

I agree with the 'exploding moon' likeness from the overexposed one showing through in the craters, and perhaps toning down the white ring. The angle of the building gives it something of a neat 'horror' look, but straightening it would look good, too.

Really great image, I'm sick jealous.

When I first looked at it I didn't like the bright ring around the moon. However, tonight, and especially on the one that you downsized, I really like it. So depending on my mood, it's either perfect the way it is or not. Is that definitive enough for you? :?
