I tend to agree with you on the Pentax being the better all around choice. Just have to convince the wife she doesn't need "scene modes" on the camera, she become so lazy with cameras lately. What with scene modes, live view (which is handy), multi focus points, multi metering optionsand all the other stuff, I think she forgot she useto use a real camera once. I did get a change to pick up and play witha K10D while on vacation in Las Vegas, NV last month and it was hard to put down. Then again I just didn't feel comfortable buying a camera from a store right in the middle of two casino's on the Las Vegas strip. Actually if I had known that Pentax offers an extended warranty plan I just might have broken down.

To keep this threada little more on subject, let me askanother question. What would be a couple of goodquality lenses tostart with, something better than kit lenses (unless the quality is good with them)but no so great that I would have to cancel my up coming retirement. Something like a 24mm-70mm and70mm-200mm or 70mm-300mm.Just a couple of all around lenses would be great.

Thanks,

Craig

i'd suggest the tamron 17-70 and the sigma 70-300 APO. you're set. you've got the whole field covered until you know what primes you want. i've seen outstanding images from both of these. the k100d super will have the scene modes but with the k10d tell her to shoot in the P mode and the cam will make an informative choice of the best way to shoot a given shot. auto scene mode..

Well just finished looking at the Tamron site and one that sells Tamron lenses and they sure seem to be in (my world) the world of reality price wise. Okay, I was also checking out the Pentax site again too.

Again thanks all forthe information., it will be a big help in picking (swaying the wife) out a new camera.

I believe they are braver men than I ever hope to become. Though I did call the wife (I'm at work) at home to tell her that Pentax is running a rebate and the Dell site had it on sell too.:G

Jachol, great to see you here too, I was actually looking for you the other day. Had a question about duplicating slides using a digital camera. Didn't you have a home made thing of a jig for doing that task?
Hi Craig,
Yes I did make a homebrew slide copier, and coincidentally I 've just replied to a new thread on the subject.

I doubt you'd want to make one as I did ... I've seen several available on ebay in the last month or two. If you need any more info PM me. Glad you're on board Craig. ... Jack

Hi All,

Been reading and viewing all the therads here and the rest of the borad and having a good time too.So much so I can't rememberwhere I readwhator what I read where, CRSI guess.Thought I had read that there were adapter for the Pentax mount that allows you to use non Pentax lenes on a Pentax (K10D) camera.Did I read correctely or was it just a case of staying up too late. I have a set of Minlota AF lenes and it should would be nice ifI could use them on a K10D at least for a time. As I have notice in this forum that thebigger, better lens bug hits hard.

Thanks,

Craig

PS
