On my way to work I stopped at my usual spot. These were taken with the A* 200 mm, ISO 200 f8 1/3000 sec. Which one is the better?

Kjell

I cannot put my finger on why, but I like the first one best

Hi Kjell,

I favor #2 -- I like the contrast between the midground treesand those further back. I also like the "glow" of the fog, I assume because of the increased light level.

I'm going to want to look at these on my monitor at home, rather than this terrible one at work. But my first reaction is that both photos arelovely and delicate, andto prefer the second one - the bits of leaves on the right of the first oneare a distraction to me (if they were balanced on the left framing your scene I might feel differently). There are some things I prefer about the first one over the second one, but let me think about it and look at both againon a decent monitor before I make further comments.

P.S. - I've looked at both of them on my monitor at home. The first one has more depth to the picture - a plus to me. If I block out the leaves on the right it's got nice moodiness to it. The second one is more defined than the first one - it has more of a defined subject (that's not quite what I want to say, but since I'm no art critic I have no idea how to say what I feel when I look at it). If it weren't for the leaves on the right side, I wouldn't have a clear favorite.

Kjell

Although I really like the three dimensional aspect of the first shot, I must say that I think I like the second shot more. Well done.

Both are striking, but the first one looks more natural to me, probably because the second one reminds me of a silk screen print I have on my wall of a similar scene - it is made of several layers, one on top of another (variants of the same print were made with and without one or more of the elements (therefor multiple screeings were used - like layers in Photoshop).

I find the branches in the foreground of shot number 1 to be quite distraction, thus my vote is 2

Really nice work. Both are beautiful shots but I like #2 best. The darkerdetailswith less clutter of the trees in the front row make itthe stand out shot to me.
