This might be a stupid question but...

Can you use any kind of flash (canon, nikon, sigma) with your pentax camera, or does it have to be dedicated to pentax?

you can use any flash made in manual control if you set the cam up correctly. even the older bulb flashes. the question is 'do you want to do the research that it takes'. most any current camera will work on any camera automatically to a limited degree if the flash has thyristor control. others you just set the ap and the distance accordingly to the GN of the flash. FLASH is a really big topic to get into. it's really better to get a P-PTTL flash..

Thanks Roy, that's kinda what I thought. So is P-TTL just for Pentax then?

And, what about voltage differences. I have heard if you aren't careful you can fry the camera and/or the flash. Also, what about P-TTL and TTL. I am sure that is why you say "manual" but then is that really something someone with a $900 camera wants to deal with.

If you want the camera and flash to work and work correctly get one of the P-TTL Pentax flashes. Forget about trying to juryrig the others.
