Well, I think Pentax has more to loose if their 18-250 is made by Tamron and it isn't a great lens like thier others. It is Pentax's reputation on the line not Tamron's. Even if it is widely known to be a Tamron if the lens turns out to be poor then they only conclusion one can draw is that Pentax requested lesser quality for the lens than Tamron uses for their own 18-250.

Own only Pentax brand lenses (don't know or really care who made them) and have been very happy with all of them.

Hi Robert,

The Pentax will probably be more expensive, but will likely hold its value better. It might be different mechanically, and might have Quick Shift focusing, which to me would be a significant advantage in use.

Pentax says that it will sell for less than $500. The Tamron is $499 at B & H.

IMHO, if they are the same price, I'll opt for the Pentax version.

I agree; the SMC would be worth it alone.

I just called my local Shutterbug store and they have them on order, no arrival data but they are charging $30 more than SRP. Now I know why I don't shop locally. Geeze people do you need to be that greedy?

I guess it will be B&H and I am going for the Pentax brand.

At least you have a local shuttebug store that offers more than just the Pentax camera body

A wise choice I would think.

I believe that I will, more than likely, order one as soon and B&H has them on their web-0site.

I am hopeful it will be as good as the 50-200 which I just love. Having the extra wide and little extra zoom in that kind of quality would be awesome. Next a macro lens and then finally an external flash. Then I am done.

I said something along that last line about a year ago... then it was well maybe I'll adda little longer lens, then how about a little wider, now I need a little faster, maybea prime in this focal length. Now add the DA* in the mix... yeah I will never be done.
