i use a manfrotto 679b and a 484rc2 ball head. before the ball head i rarely used the monopod, after adding it, it makes all the difference in the world and i take it with me all the time.

only thing i don't like about the 679b is that i can't use it sitting down on the ground. it's a little long collapsed.. it is a nice mono tho..

Many thanks Roy - I've put in a bid for one of those monopods.

Hi Keith,
You may have already see it, but just in case you haven't ... a similar v mount to the one in Penoltas thread is available at 7 Day Shop, it looks like a handy piece of kit, certainly one I could use. ... Jack.

Jack - I had seen that and was probably going to buy it. Just waiting to see whether my ebay bid wins, if not I'll probably get a 7dayshop monopod and the cradle at the same time.

Thanks

Keith

an asset to getting a ball head is that you can also use it on a tripod. do you have a link to the one you bid??

Roy - I bid for (and won) this one; it was mono3 on your list. I like the length to which it extends, hopefully I won't get backache!!!

Now to look into ball heads and a lens cradle.

Thanks for your help

Keith

this has a head on it. i'd wait and see if you like it. from looking at it you might.
i'd probably replace the handle on this with a knob. the handle looks like it would be in the way when using a monopod.

Keith,
That head looks virtually identical to mine, I have no problems with that, but the handle as Roy says is a PITA, it's too long ... I've been looking at ways to shorten it, and make a tidy job of it. I've not finalised anything yet. The fold out foot stay on mine is very loose and flaps about all the time, I find most of the time I dont need it, so I'm considering removing that too ... Jack
