I ordered a Benro Professional Carbon Fiber Monopod on EBay for $73.80 including shipping. Then I ordered a Sima Quick release for $13.00 shipped. I did't order a ball head as I will most likely use it for landscape and macro work with the K100D Super. I wanted to keep the weight down as i am going to use it on my river cruise in Europe.

Jack - I have a feeling that they are the same make. The monopods from 7dayshop have model numbers WT1003 and WT1005, whereas the one I have just ordered is a WT1006.

I guess I'll take it to a hardware shop and see if I can get something to replace the handle.

That sounds logical Keith, could well be so. Re. the handle ... I find it gets in the way when I look through the viewfinder, problem is it serves as a handle for panning, as well as locking the fore and aft tilt, if you can do without the panning action then a knob would suffice. I'd suggest you try it as it stands, and see how you find it. You can remove the head completely, I've also considered converting it to just a ballhead, which I already have. I think the Vee bracket may also solve a lot of this problem, and make use in general much easier. ... Jack.

that little foot brace on a monopod is absolutely worthless.. what doesit do?? keep you from raising eveything off the ground??? the mono takes care of your vertical movement. when you use it you need to find a way of bracing it and your body to take care of lateral movement.. get a thumb screw to replace the arm. i don't know what you call a hardware store in the UK but they probably carry them in different lengths.

i just ordered a CF tripod and a light weight ball head( .97lbs) that supports 22lbs for 120usd delivered.. tripod gets the top higher than 5' w/o using the center column and the whole thing weighs in at under 5.5lbs. PM me if you want to know from where and from whom.
