Well I have finally made my first pass through my pics from the Gathering. This was the second best air show I have seen. I wish I could have been there for 3 full days instead of 1.5 but I would still be working on the first run through. Sorry if this is overkill.

I realize these are not wall hangers but I am fond of these (and others) so I thought I would share. The sun was not in an optimal position for a lot of the show but my greatest mistake was loosing track of shutter speed. I did not blur the prop correctly on any of the pics. I get too excited and forget little things like that.

All were taken with a K10D. The air shots of the Mustang and Lancaster were taken with the Pentax 50-200. All other air shots were taken with an older Tamron 100-3005-6.3. All the static pictures were with the kit lens. Feel free to comment if you desire. I am happy to learn.

Opening ceremony each day - A jumper dropped with a 70 pound flag while being circled by the Red Baron team.

A line of Mustangs. There were over 80 in attendance.

Mustang on takeoff

An F-15 on steep takeoff

A beautiful Jug

2 beautiful Jugs

A Lancaster actually in the air

A B-17 in the air

A Raptor flying down the line

A required Thunderbirds shot

A Steerman blowing fire from the exhaust due to the effects of carboration and gravity being out of synch. It was part of the show and never a danger.

One more of the opening ceremonies flag. I am not super big on this one but a few others have really liked it. Maybe if I crop it, I might like it better.

EDIT:

OK, here is the crop. I do like it better.

Great airshow photos. I haven't had a chance to go to an airshow

in a couple of years. Hopefully next year. My favorite shot was the

B-17 but all were good..... Jim

Thanks. I took about 1800 photos and the first run has them down to about 300. Of that bunch the 2 jugs or the Mustang on takeoff are my current favorites.

I just wish I had got my head out of my rear end and slowed the shutter on the prop planes.

I disagree - more are than are not.

How fast was that Raptor going? The air disturbance around it says VERY. What were your ISO and shutter speed (no EXIF reader on this computer)?

Thanks for the comments. If I could make a living at airshow/aircraft pics I would. Maybe when I retire (after another 15 or 20 years practice) I may have the skills.

The Raptor was not going tooooo fast but he was moving on. I will check the exif at home tonight. I don't have any of thephoto softwarehere on my work PC.

Enjoyed these. Thanks for posting. We haven't had any P-47s show up in our area in a while so your photos of them and your Lancaster photo are a treat.

The P-47 is one of my favorite aircraft.

Those are all great photos.

I especially like the Raptor. Great shot.

I'm glad you enjoyed them.

Those P-47s are both out of the Warbird Museum in Sevierville, TN (Pigeon Forge). I was very dissappointed that they did not participate in any of the heritage flights but I loved seeing them in the air together.

I think the Lancaster is out of Canada. I think that is the one that was almost lost in a fire a few years back. There are very few of them still flying. I think there are only 2 left.

I am a big fan of the jug as well. Seeing the two of them in the air together was a great treat to me.

The Raptor put on a show like I had never seen before. That bird is capable of things that you have to see to believe.
