here's 3 from their area of the lake. i was a little disappointed in these. shot with the A70-210 w/1.4x-s.
as sharp as this lens is i thought the 1.4 would work fine but thet turned out softer than expected.

Are these cropped or full frame? Distance? (It should be several hundred miles, since you are in Texas and these really should be in Bolivia.:lol

Interesting - it does look like the TC and lens might not get along too well. I like the third one, though.

Speaking of TC's - I've been thinking about getting one for the Vivitar macro (I'd like to magnify more but don't want to get any closer to my subject). I've been thinking of the Sigma 1.4 APO, but the website says that it only works with certain lenses. Is there something else I should look for?

#3 is not too bad Roy, but you are right, one and two are really too soft. I generally get poor results with any teleconverter on any lens, the best I have managed was the Tamron 1.4x on the 300mm 2.8. I don't think that any other combination has been "keeper" quality.

well, i expected this particular set up would work because the lens is so nice. but ,as you, i've never had much luck with TCs on zooms. the TCs i have all work pretty good on primes .. can you handhold the 300/2.8 + a 1.4x ??

Honestly, I don't think I have truly tried to hand hold the 300/2.8 even without a converter. I know when I first got it I tried some shots without a tripod but as I recall I had either the lens or my hand braced on something solid. It is a monster of a lens for certain.
