Another classroom. Not much legspace here. Tough light for the photographer.
Kjell,

Thanks for bringing us the images.

One thing about their students there is their huge drive to make full use of the meagre facilities for learning. And they do value educated people a lot. That is day and nights from those in N Am when school is mandatory and teachers particularly in some rough neighbourhood are seen as target for mockery . And that is on top of drug issue. Kids there probably know more about purpose of schooling than people around us.

Ask Ira. I think the teachers have never been tougher in the so-called civilised world

These are great photos. I was scrolling through and I saw #4 and for some reason I caught the interaction and facial expressions on the women in the center background. I think that this would be a good submission for the December Challenge....

Is that a better contender as symbol of peace?

Kjell - those are quite magical photos. They encapsulate the sense that while our surroundings are different and we are somehow the same.

Thanks for posting, and if you have any more, keep them coming.

Great photos of a world most of us never get to see since the news only shows us the negative and never the positive.

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone.

Daniel, you're so right about students efforts. In Transkei the way out of poverty spells education – and the kids know it. But in defence of the youth I must say my students are very pleasing to work with, too. Maybe not as diligent, but very agreeable.

The photos were taken in November – no entry to the December challenge.

Tom, the way life in 3rd world countries is presented in our western media is so distorted. Most people are poor, but not in destitution, and truly enjoy life.

I'll start a new thread with more pictures, considering our dial-up members.

Kjell
