Imitation is the best form of flattery ? Or they are feeling heat from both Sony & Pentax. Either way, the game of gaining market share has heated up.

Well it's only logical.

The ability the use SR right away when you buy a Pentax or Sony DSLR is a huge selling point, especially for new users.

They just want to match that offer to persuade any doubting new customers.

They have made it clear and put a spin on the fact that the SR in their kit lens are no match to their regular (translation: over $700 apiece) and high-end ones. Also they continue the spin that in body SR is inferior to in lens . Of course they avoid the weight issue.
