Ed, your DC Metro shot is amazing. Normally, when I'm looking at photos, my wife, viewing from across the living room, will occasionally say "That's nice," or "I like that one." When she saw your shot, she made me stop so she could come across the room to look at it more closely.

This whole thread highlights just what can be done by talented photographers armed with a quality camera. Roy said it would be easy to make a coffee table book with just the shots in this thread. You will never find any better shots than the two Timor pictures Crashman posted on this page.

Patti, it's no wonder that a wonderful pic of your grandchild is one of your best three of the year. Eastman Kodak brought photography to the masses by its ability to capture special memories with the little Brownie cameras. Today, we have such powerful tools with which we can freeze beautiful moments, so that like Wordsworth

"For oft when on my couch I lie / In vacant or pensive mood, / They flash upon that inward eye / Which is the bliss of solitude. / Then my heart with pleasure fills / And dances with the daffodils."

Great photography has the ability to enable us to relive emotion long after the long after the moment that prompted it. Special moments in our lives such as the birth of a child or grandchild, or in my case, my son's wedding this year, will be ever fresh because of our photos.

I was very pleased with these three ... all approximately 1:1 macros, and taken in the same session. ... Jack

My favorites from 2007: 1 of 3

This one made the Pentax Photo Gallery and won several POTD contests. Possibly one of the best photos I think I have ever taken.

My favorites from 2007: 2 of 3

This one got an honorable mention for the zoo's 2008 calendar. Didn't make the calendar though.

My favorites from 2007: 3 of 3

Took this one too late in the year to submit for the zoo calendar, still one my favorites. Puts a smile on my face every time I see it.

It is a good thing this topic isn't a contest - the competition would be FIERCE!
