Hi Everyone - I was playing with Irfanview tonight and had downloaded the latest version from there site (v4.10). Usually, I just pick to activate a few of the common plug-ins, but for some reason Ichose activate all and went for it. I know we have a few out there that also still like Irfanview, so this may be of interest to you. For those that don't know about Irfanview, it's a free imageviewer (and more)that has been around for awhile, I think seven years now.

In the past I have been doing my raw conversion with PPL, then saving as a TIF and use Irfanview to finish it off. This gave me good results. Anyway, looking at the supported files in Irfanview, it has one group with DNG and PEF among others. I tried it and it seems to work great on my raw's, thenI can savethem as a JPG. I'm sure this has been available for some time now and I just didn't know about it.I also found that the included Irfanview Thumbnail Viewer works fine withmy PEF files. Irfanview has never been advertised as a raw converter that I know of.

Are there any other tricks you Irfanview lovers use with your Pentaximages to make them better? Below is the one I played with. It was just a raw imageI grabbed and converted, nothing special. The plant is a Silverleaf Phacelia, a wildflower best known for its prettysilver green leaves- Bruce

Bruce I tried Irfanview a few years ago and didn't like it as much as some of the other viewers and processors I had. This makes me want to go back and try the new version and see how it works...Thanks for the post..I think it will help me do the things I need to do. Thanks again!!

i use it as a viewer only altho i have all the plugins activated. it's done PEF files for as long as i can remember.. the only time i use it for other than viewing is for screen shots.. it's quick, simple and clean.. i really like it.. some thing not known by many(i don't use it) is it's ability to run a number of photoshop actions once they are installed.. i think it's a great little program..
