No sparrows Kjell. The ones in the bottom photo are a cardinal (red) And a female house finch!

House Finch (English Sparrows have no stripes below).

Dawg, I grew up in Florida, where there were plenty of these Red-bellied Woodpeckers around.I would awaken in the morning to the sound of theseguys bangingon the buildings'aluminum drainpipes - better drumming posts than tree trunks (their way of advertising their territories and attracting a mate) - and certainly a more ringing endorsement than the dull thunk a palm tree provides!

They do that here...quite often you can drum on the front porch posts (Western red cedar) and one will come around. They sure are funny poking their heads around the tree trunk then popping back out of sight!

Those Woodpeckers are so colorful, the ones we have here do not have that much red on them. Nice shots.

I googled the house finch. Funny, birds are often the opposite of humans. The guys are so beautiful, the gals dull or plain. With us it's the opposite... and I'm glad for that!aranoid:
