My son ran across this and thought that it was pretty good and very simple. I think so too.

I don't know how it might work with the in body SR, but it is so simple, that it might be useful in some situations.

dead link but it does almost link to a site that has inappropriate content for here.
i think however that what this is about is using a piece of string for a monopod. there's been one in my bag forever..

Hi Roy,

Sorry that the link did not work for you, but your absolutely right. Just in case someone else is unable to get to the link, here is the process.

A 1/4 inch threaded bolt, a length of string about your height, and a large metal washer. Tie one end of the string around the bolt and screw it in to the bottom of the camera. Then tie the other end of the string to the bolt, drop it on the ground and step on it with a foot. Pull the string tight by aiming the camera, and it helps stablize the camera.

It works when nothing else is available. seen one used in 1970 or so!
