I do turn off the SR. Since the SR is only activated when th shutter is relased I would think if you were panning to the right the SR would try to hold the sensor steady (To the left) when the shutter fires. I am not sure but that is the way I see it in my mind. The manual tells you not to use SRwhen panning.

No tripod. K10D, Tokina 80-400mm with 1.5 Kenco teleconverter.

I find this lens light enough to hand hold and pan fairly steady, also use the higher ISO to reduce movement by me and the target (flapping wings etc.).

I have a Sigma 100-300mm F4with Sigma 1.4 TC that I use with monopod or tripod.
