When I bought my first Pentax D-SLR which was an *istDL I was immediately blown away with the quality of the images with the 6MP sensor. When I bought my K10D I was an early adopter. The 10MP sensor never gave me the same initial blown away impression as the 6MP sensor first did. I just thought there was a little too much noise compared to the 6MP sensor, but I expected that from going from 6MP to 10MP. Nonetheless I was pleased with the images the K10D produced. Fast forward to today. WOW! Pentax/Samsung did something RIGHT with their new sensor. A few images I took at work today immediately gave me that same blown away, I can't believe the quality of the images impression.

The first thing I noticed picking up the camera was that the right hand thumb area has been reduced. I have big fingers, and it was noticable but not distracting. The edge of my thump rests on the middle of the rear dial, which I like. Another good thing I liked was that the compartment latches have been made larger. The menu system of the K20D is soooooooo much better compared to the K10D. I tried Liveview... I have to play with it some more but so far I don't care for it. The 21FPS burst mode is actually kinda cool to play with. Autofocus is better. Suprisingly better. It does not hunt and peck for the AF confirmation that my K10D always seemed to do. Press, focus, beep, snap. It is great and seems to be precise. Shutter snap is also much quieter. perhpas 40% quieter than my K10D.

Still more to play with and try out. So far I am blown away with the quality of the new sensor and I am liking many of the small improvements. I just tried to gather some things, various color, etc... for the samples.
