Took this at 2.8 with the Sigma 300mm today and it isn't too bad wide open. It really picked out the deer eating from the herd although it isn't quite as sharp as it is stopped down.

There is definately a DOF issue with this lens wide open!

Looks like the DOF is on the thin side with it wide open.

Thin yes, but what is in focus looks pretty sharp for wide open. That should work very well for a single subject, it looks to me like you bought a winner Tom.

Hi Tom,

That looks really good. It appears to control CA very well also, better than the Tam Adaptall 2 300/2.8. I'd say that it's a good candidate for using with the AFA for a 510 f4.8.

I definitely think that this was a good purchase!

Hi Tom,

Now with the cow pic, I'm really impressed! It appears that all the mfgs make/made great 300/2.8s. . .

I really think you did well with this one! My Tamron is jealous:-)
