Last year Philneast posted a shot of a ride at night under this same name. I was in a car a couple of nights ago with nothing to do on a 3 hour trip when I thought about that. Got out my DL and started to take some time exposures of all the lights going buy the car. Bright lights with a slow shutter speed small aperture, dim lights with a slow shutter speed and wide open. Here are a few of themore interestingones.

But is it art?...LOL I like the one with the 80's in focus.

Number 2 and 4 with the segmented streaks is interesting. I wonder what that is all about.

i think these are pretty cool! i like #5 the most because i get that feeling that the lights are coming out towards me, or drawing me in depending on how you look at it. i'll have to remember this and try it someday. thanks!

Dennis, Gumnut and Ishino, thanks for the comments. The segmented lines come from lights on Alternating or AC current such as you get from anything plugged into an outlet. They areacutally going on and off 60 times a second in the US and 50 times a second here in Europe. That's what you see on your appliances that say 50Hz or 60Hz. The lights without segments come from Direct Current or DC current, such as you get from a car. Thanks again.

These are interesting - certainly more interesting than I would have expected. I think I'll try this sometime - I spend way too much time in the car in the dark!

Thanks Rodney and Harriet. It's a lot more fun than just sitting there!

Interesting and abstract. I don't know that I would have ever had the idea to do something similar on my own.
