Hi Harriet

The flower pictures that stand out for me have ( Early thoughts)

1) Particularly beautiful color blend. or

2) An insect or bird to add interest to the image.

3) Water droplets of frosted flower.

Here's one of my pix of a Sunrise Rose in early morning after rain.

Cheers: Ian Mc

Flowers seems to have been one of the first things that drew my attention when I got my camera. Being very amateur where it comes to taking good pics, I just took pics of the flowers I thought looked good.

Here is one of my favorites:

i am not going to get into what makes a good flower photo
it depends on personal preferences at the time
and when you are trying to please some one else you need to guess their preferences instead
(maybe have a look at the flowers that are already up there and ask yourself why do these work)
this is one of mine i like
because it is different

taken with a cheap (free) Hanimex 400mm lens on a 2x convertor with no glass

Ian - I really love your wet flower! I was out once in similar conditions, but tried to get too close (tried to get close enough to see the reflections in the drops - it was one of those days when I was looking for raindrops rather than flowers) and missed something like this entirely. Definitely my loss, as my picture didn't work at all.

John- I really like your shot of the of the pink asters a lot. You really have used DOF to draw the eye right to your subject and the out of focus forground makes a nice touch to the picture. Even though ithas a fairly bright background, you have managed to keep it from overpowering the image itself. Very nice work and capture - Bruce

A lot of nice flower pictures in this thread, but I must say: Ian and John, you put the bar higher. Amazingly beautiful.

nice photos in this topic.

for me it's usually sharp flower with nicely blurred background, water droplets are nice as well.

or something really different like this one:

I know it's not to everyone liking but I tried to shot it with smaller aprertures and this worked for me best.
