I bought two 'new' lens yesterday, a Pentax-M 100mm F4 Macro and a Pentax-M 28mm F2.8 Wide. I know I already have the Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 (Di) Macro but I always wanted a real Pentax lens and I got the two at a good budget price.

Rodney.

Nice shots, Rodney. Now that you can compare the two, is the Pentax better than the Tamron? I think it should be because Pentax adds some coating and probably has a better quality control. Let us know.

By reputation, IMO Tamron should be ahead of the 1:2 macro lens of F4. The F4 macro (with simple 5 element 4 group design) has a lot less muscle than other 1:1 macros.

Rodney should give us some info as to the validity of the argument ( more complicated optical design and better image qual)

Congrats with your new lens(es).

Image nr3 is for me the best cat shot I've seen (ever)

Yes, the third one of your cat is wonderful. Just enough shadow and detail.

The macro lens looks very sharp and the 28mm is a very well regarded lens, they both should do well for you. How do you like the manual focus, and have you forgotten to push the button yet to meter? I got to the point when I was using my manual lenses often, where I'd keep pushing the button when using the kit lens in P modeand wonder why it wasn't stopping down the lens, it became so second nature to me. Have fun with them.

How does the 28mm do stopped down some? I noticed that my K10 used to over-expose with my SMC 24mm 2.8 when I stopped it down more than about f4. I haven't used that lens since I got the 12-24, so I don't know if the K20 does that or not.
