After testing my Tamron for close up on flowers

Tamron 70-300 Di LD Macro Test Shots - Hin's Tech Corner

I went on to test the Tamron zoom on moving insects with bee

#1

#2 miss focus on the flying bee

#3

#4

#5

#6 quite soft due to movement

Overall, I am quite happy with the lens. The PF is evident in this lens, most of the bee shots have purple fringes showing in the wings, eyes and some area show fringes with green also. I have not attempted the correction on PF.

I shot all bee shots in ISO 400 in K10D in jpg.

Thanks,
Hin

Wow, those are amazingly close for a non-dedicated macro lens!

Looks like you got a keeper

Number 3 clinches the spot as my favourite, it's got the focus, lighting, DOF. All very nice photos though congrats

Thanks for the kind comments. I bought my copy used for $90 and the tele macro has been outstanding for the inexpensive price that I paid. I used it for portraits in 70 to 130mm range and I used it for close up with 1:2 magnification most. I will have another post for portraits with my boys hopefully soon.

Thanks! The close up from this lens come in handy when I want to get close to flower, leaves and the nature with bees and ladybug

#7 overexposed unfortunately

#8 love the little guy on the flower

#9 works well on flower close up

Thanks,
Hin

Welcome to the Pentax forum. Those are very nice shots indeed. I spent a good bit of last Saturday working on "bee in flight" shots with a 105mm macro and I don't have anything to top the shots you got. I would be quite happy with that lens.

These are all really nice - I especially like #4. #7 isn't so much over-exposed (or at least it doesn't look it on the monitor I'm using at work) as much as the scene had too much dynamic range for the sensor. If you had done much under-exposing that lovely leaf would have been dark. I don't find the fact your OOF background has blown highlights all that disturbing (though the real photography critics probably would). Your leaf definitely catches the eye and the details/sharpness shown indicate the lens will give you lots of nice pictures.

I like all of them, but I agree with Harriet, #4 stands out. A very enjoyable series.

Very nice. I really like the fourth one and the lady bug one. Superb! Hope I can do as well with mine I just got.

Am hoping to get out this weekend and play around with it.
