Ira,

What is it? Ice frozen into a form on top of a ball? Is this the spigot where the water comes out? I'm having a problem identifying what I'm looking at.:?

That looks like a little fountain, with a very small spirt. Very little DOF there to work with - focus is right on.

I shot these wide open to limit the DOF and get the high shutter speed I wanted to freeze the action. This is indeed a fountain with a low pressure flow that soaks a stone looking ball of about 30cm. I have another shot which was taken with a long zoom and resulted in a very different looking result. Here it is, K10D with F 100-300mm zoom:

Hi Ira,

You know that fountain looks like the one that they used to use in the park in Chicago when I was a kid... Dated myself, didn't I...

Nice shots!! I like the one with the 100-300mm lens. Different perspective.

It's interesting to see it with the bigger DOF - it makes more sense in one way. However, you lose the feeling that you got with the first pictures, where the spurt looks like a dolphin or a thoughtful gorilla (I don't see the horned hippo as well).

In any case, they are lots of fun.
