I need to make a change and I would like your help/opinions. After helping my friend with a decision to upgrade his old MX to digital I lost …. he went to Cannon. He was kind enough to give me some of his lenses and in the process of helping him. I also got carried away and purchased a used K10D and 50-200 DA lens.

I now realize I am in love with stuff and am determined to stop looking and buying and start using. I am contemplating mainstreaming what I have and giving or selling the lenses I won't use much as a way to get less cluttered and more streamlined. Kind of fearful to change lenses allot due to issues with Dust so I end up sticking with one or two main ones. Here is my inventory:

SunPak auto 322 - flash (never use anymore)
Pentax 360FGZ – (use Often)

Pentax 50-200 DA 4.0 (just bought not here yet)
Pentax DA 18-55 (use often)
Pentax FA 80-320 4.5 (very heavy but use sometimes)
Pentax SMC FA 28-70 4.0 (use very little)
Tokina 28-105 SZ-X 4.0 (use very little)
Pentax A 70-210 5.6 (just given to me for free)
Pentax M 28MM 2.8 (just given to me for free)
Pentax M 50 1.7 (just given to me for free)
Oswa Manuel 135mm 2.8 (have not used in 20 years)

Bodies:
Pentax 1[suP]st[/suP] DL (use often)
Pentax K10D (just Bought not here yet)
Pentax ZX5n 35MM film camera (sits in closet)
Pentax MX 35 MM film camera (sits in closet)
Pentax Optio W10 (use with kids and in the pool)

Which pieces if any would you jettison?

I would keep the 50mm f/1.7 and 28mm f/2.8 for sure. The 50mm f/1.7 is a fabulous lens, and I love my 28mm f/2.8, too. I think you'll find you will really use the 50-200mm. These are the ones I have experience with (and the 18-55, too).

This is what I'd do (actually have done): Get rid of all "second bests", you'll never use them anyway. The key point isn't if you use them often, but how you feel when you do use them. The things you pick up but put back in the drawer again because you have a better option will collect dust for ever.

Keep the "don't use it often but hard to find and aaah so good" stuff. That would be the A 70-210 lens. Just ask Roy if it's any good.

Keep the two DSLR bodies, a 6 MP body can be very convenient at times.

Get rid of the analog film bodies, if you don't want to keep them for good old memories sake. I've got a Program A body I'll never use again, but never will sell or toss. For gods sake, we've been to war together!

With this philosophy, buying and selling,I've compiled a nice set of gear which I am always satisfied with, even the things I seldom but at least sometimes use. And a few pieces for nostalgia.

may i say something??
QUIT POSTING IN WHITE!!!
okay, those of us smart folks have left the blk background/wht texta long time ago.

the only 70-210 i'm familiar with is the Af4 and it's as good as it is heavy. it's an outstanding lens. you've got some decent glass. use it and find out what you want to keep.

Yes stop posting in white text, it is a pain to read!!

I would keep the 50 1.7 and the 70-210 for sure, the others are hit and miss depending on how they work out for you with your DSLR's.

Hey Bowenp,
Forget what these other guys say, I think you should ship it all over to me and let me check it all out to see if it's worth keeping. Then I'll send those pieces back to you. I'll do this free of charge out of the goodness of my heart and for my trouble I'll just keep the worthless ones!:lol::lol:

Okay ennacac -

I will stop posting in white, but how do I get rid of the black background so I can read what I am writing? I assume I would go to a white background with black lettering (refuse to go Packer Green since I am from Minnesota) but how do I do it?

Thanks for your help

Ditto.

Might keep the 320 zoom too. You never know when you might want a little more length, and it's not tying up a lot of money hanging on to it.
