My *istD was unused for quite a while until just recently. It has had the firmware upgraded to 2.02 & operates perfectly EXCEPT for the menu functions. Upon pressing the menu button I get a brief display of the options (at best for about .5 of a second) before the menu shuts down. Fresh batteries make no difference.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Any suggestions?

Hello grj, :bye:

I see you've had 42 others look at your post with no commit. I wish I could tell you something more positive but, I'm clueless myself. (sorry) I just wanted to welcome you to the forum and assure you if somebody has any idea what could be wrong, they will reply. Don't give up, it may take a couple days.
Cheers,
GW

Clean the contacts between the body and lens and let me know if it helps.

Welcome to the forum, grj. As GW says, if someone knows something about your problem you'll get an answer sooner or later.

I'd say, wait a few days to see if someone gives an informed answer. If not, try to reinstall the firmware upgrade. That's a shot in the dark, but might hit.

Hi all
Thanks for the responses.
No luck so far. Have reinstalled firmware, cleaned contacts, changed batteries, all to no avail. Will keep trying. Maybe a return for service is my only answer.

I just checked the Pentax website, and the latest firmware I find for the *ist D is 1.12.

Where did you find the 2.02 f/w version?

Yeah, maybe you downloaded the wrong firmware. If you have an *istD you should have grabbed the 1.12 firmware, if you have and *istDS then 2.02 is the right one.

Does it do this with all your lenses? I know that there was a Sigma lens that would cause problems with the menu. If it does it with more than one lens, you can rule them out.

Eureka!!
Yes, It was the lens causing the problem. Fitted my Sigma tele-zoom & the menu is now accessible.
The troublesome one was a Sigma 18 - 50 mm 3.5 - 5.6 zoom.
Thanks everyone for your help.
I wonder how many other lenses cause this problem?
Thanks again.
