K10D Tamron 90m Di. Hand held, (web moving in the breeze - none perfect, these were the 2 best).

Prior to getting into macro photography I never realized how rare it was to have no breeze blowing. Any spider/web shot in moving air is tough, I think you did good getting these ones Penolta.

Thanks, Tim - I know what you mean - you should have seen the ones that got away!

Thanks Jay and GW for the nice words. Jay, maybe I should have saved these for Halloween! :-)

Your talent is definitely noteworthy without question here. I'm amazed how you can get such decent pictures where a slight breeze is equivalent to a gale force wind for anyone else. But somehow I'm not thrilled by your subject.

Thanks, Harriet. It is just another of life's little dramas - whether in the macrocosm or microcosm, it is a kill or be killed world out there. Better a fly does some good by feeding a spider than leaving maggots behind in the yukky dog piles it feeds on (I just can't feel sorry for a fly)! As far as I am concerned that is one that she kept out of my house! If you view it dispassionately, the way spiders know how to wrap up their prey and store it for later dining is as remarkable as their ability to spin the complex webs we so admire in the early morning dew.

"The spider is a very valuable animal who helps the gardener to eat the insects" a school kid wrote in his essay.

Very nice pictures showing an interesting behaviour most of us just overlook chasing that shot of an eagle or elk.
