I'd like to play with taking night photos, but every time I've tried my results have been terrible.

Are there any good tutorials for doing this with Pentax slr cameras?

What I'd really like to capture is star paths

Give us a little more information; what kind of terrible results have you been having?

I'll mention some of the obvious:
  • usea tripodon something rigid [/*]
  • use the remote or bulb shutter releasethat allows you tolock the shutter open [/*]
  • makesure you have the viewfinder cover in place to avoid light enteringthrough the viewfinder [/*]
  • focus on infinity [/*]
  • mid-ISO (200-400), relatively large aperture to allow the most light in[/*]
I tried this with my K10D for the first time last week to capture the Perseid meteor shower. Although I was unsuccessful in capturing any meteors, the star tracks turned out pretty well.

I've also caputered some moon shots through a telescope with a T-ring adaptor with the K10D.

The end of this page was pretty useful........

Note also the strange occurance thatI mentioned in a previous thread: The camera will process the shot for about the same amount of time as the exposure time. So, if you leave the shutter open for 5 minutes, the camera will process and write the image for about 5 minutes, during which time the camera is locked up and unuseable. Not knowing this, I freaked out the first few times, thinking there was something wrong with my camera until I figured out what was happening.
