The heavy rains and winds associated with the passage of the remnants of Hurricane Gustav two weeks ago stripped the blooms off my wife's knockout rose....all except one. Tonight, he's facing his second storm as the winds of Ike move in. I'm curious if he'll make it through the night. With the storm still packing tropical storm force winds, I'm not so sure, but he fooled me the first time. (Photo taken at about 8:20pm with the storm moving in)

Taken with the K20d, Tamron 70-300 di Macro, Pentax 540 flash, 1/180 sec @ f16., ISO 100.

Let us know if your rose survives - doesn't sound like a good night. Pretty picture - if it gets blown to bits all you have to do is print the picture, then clip it onto the stem...

So far, so good....after two hours of 40+ mph winds and rain...still standing, although a little mussed.

If it can survive that kind of wind it should be good for a while.

A really beautiful picture, Paul. Sorry it had to come from a miserable experience.

I'm happy to report that like everyone else in our family, the tough little rose bloom I posted last night greeted the morning standing tall. Tropical Storm Ike proved to be pretty much a non-event for us....passing through rapidly without much lasting effect. After having so much tree damage in Gustav, we were very concerned about Ike, but the only damage we had was an uprooted bird feeder pole and two crushed feeders.

Our thoughts go out to those in Texas who weren't so lucky.

Actually, I spoke a little too soon. It turns out our road was blocked by a tree blown down near where it meets the pavement. Another giant red oak (more than 2 feet in diameter) fortunately fell the other direction, into the woods, and I suspect a very large pine was loosened enough that it will probably go the next high wind.

But at least the rose survived. Glad the damage wasn't worse for you, and I do feel for all those who are facing such destruction along the Texas coast.

Nice to hear that another person has faired okay with this last storm. It looks like it will be going north of us. Thought we were going to get the rain, although nothing like what you all had.
