I noticed that one of the items Pentax announced this week was the flash ring light. I'm thinking about it but am not so sure I'd use it enough to justify its cost. Is anyone around here thinking of it, too? And why would you want or not want it? Does a ring light do better than a regular flash? I think it evens out the light more, but does that take away all of the shadows? Sometimes shadows are good for giving an item shape.

I have an interest for macro photography. Sometimes, at small enough apertures, it is hard to blast enough light all the way from the hot shoe to your subject to get the shot you want. I did not see any announcements, do you have a link Harriet?

Tim,

There is a photo of it here - http://www.pentaxslr.com/flashes/flash_ring_flashre-locate.

Photo of complete kit here - http://nedbunnell.blogspot.com/

Ed

thought some Pentaxians would like to see what's in the new AF160FC Macro Flash Kit. When viewing the opened kit, on the upper left is the macro adapter for D-FA macro lenses. The four slots in the upper middle section hold the threaded lens adapter rings for 49mm, 52mm, 58mm and 67mm.

It looks really cool - just not sure I'm willing to pay that much. I hadn't noticed that Sigma was releasing one, too - that can give me another possible option.

OK, but try not to break it in a month this time! :blah: PM on the way to you.

On the topic of the Pentax ring flash, the only hitch I see is the size. The largest filter thread adapter is 67mm, plenty big for my 105mm but I have my eye on the Sigma 180mm macro, and that takes a 72mm filter. I have not seen Sigma's offering but I will have to check that out as well, I am excited to see ring lights coming available for the Pentax system though!
