We went to Keenland race track for breakfast Sat morning and watched the horses being worked. It was a beautiful morning. Everyone hears about Chuchhill Downs due to the Derby but Keenland is twice as beautiful. All shots were K10D and DA 55-300. A faster lens would have been nice until the sun got a little higher. I have decided horses are much harder than airplanes.

Don't know why you think horses are so difficult - these are wonderful! I love the second one. Is it any wonder that race horses often have leg problems - look at all that weight on that one fetlock, and look how it's flexed. In fact, horses always seem to have such fragile lower legs when you compare them to their body size.

Those came out beautifully, even the low light shots. Well done.

Mtngal - Thanks for the kind comments. Heck I was impressed you used word fetlock.

Lyrics51 - Thanks for the kind comment.

We have been near Keenland for over 18 years but we don't really like to bet so we have only been out there one time. Horses moving quick in and out of shadows seems pretty challenging to me. We might go back out next Sat morning and see if we can't apply our lessons for some better shots. Gotta get ready for the 2010 World Equistrian (sp)Games.:G

If you like horses, you really need to plan on being here in 2010.

Like the first one the best..the panning effect (albiet slight) together with both horses with all their hooves off the ground conveys a great sense of motion! Horses are easy to photograph...it's horse racing that is harder. It all happens so fast and it is over in about 2 minutes!

Keenland is a beautiful spot--visited there several times when I lived in Lexington. Must admit that I preferred the Spring meet especially with the Dogwoods in bloom.

Again, thank you all for the kind comments.

The weather is supposed to be nice again this Sat so we may go back out and see if we can do a little better. Might even get lucky and have some early fog.
