Hey all,
I had troubles doing a manual WB today and when I investigated further it seemed my camera wasn't able to do a correct WB anymore under ANY conditions.

PANIC!

At the end I found out, that I had set exposure compensation to -1 and out of curiosity I reversed that and choosed the +-0 setting. Ta-Daaah: WB was back to normal.

Being somewhat relieved I started some more experiments and found, that with exposure compensation +something manual WB worked as intended, while with -something (under-expose) the manual WB went nuts and produced something very red looking or to be more exact... it felt as if you choose the WB daylight setting and shoot inside, with normal light bulbs as light source.

Maybe this is common knowledge and I just missed it - maybe you didn't know and stumble into a situation where you need manual WB and(!) have to use exposure compensation and wonder what the camera is doing. In that case - just remember this posting, set exposure compensation to 0 - do the manual WB and set exposure compensation back to it's needed value.

Equipment used: Pentax DL2, Pentax-A 28/8

Can you reproduce this with your camera, too?

Best regards,

That's really useful info to know!

I'll have to test that out on my K100D & see if it does the same thing.

This is the type of thing that will drive you nuts. <grin>

NOTE: I've been shooting RAW all the time now though, so even if my camera guessesWB wrong, I still have a chance to play with it after the fact in Pentax Photo Lab.

Take care,
