Hi all. I've been off line for some time due to computer problems. MyGoffin cockatoosdon't care about such futilities, they are busy rearing their kid. And it grows! Still looking more or less the same, but getting bigger by the hour. Now it has opened it's eyes, and the first feathers are just beginning to show:

The parents do mind us handling the baby, but they take good care of it non the less. This picturegives a bit better sense of it's size. Two weeks ago it was the size of a walnut:

Hi Kjell,

This has got to be a neat experience, being able to observe this first hand. I'm really happy that the parents are taking such good care of the little one.

That's really a lot of growth for 2 weeks. From what I've read, it takes 60-100 days before it will be fully plumed and ready to leave the nest.

I'm looking forward to the next installment.

A full crop and a full belly - it is certainly well fed - with no competing siblings it'll be out and around before you know it!

Aaah - how cute! What great fun watching this little fellow growing up. I envy you your ability to see this so close, and to actually handle the baby without worrying that the parents would reject it afterward. What great fun!

24 days old and the feathers are beginning to show. Still growing, but not at the same speed though. Now it feels like an individual, I guess thats because one can actually get eye contact with it. The parents are still doing a terriffic job raising their kid.

How fun, but sorry to say that is one homely bird, but than it will be great looking after it grows up.

Those are great shots of something most of us never get a chance to see.

Its starting to be recognizable as a bird! Even though I wouldn't call it a pretty bird yet, it's getting there. It's been great fun watching this little fellow growing up, and it must be gratifying that the parents are doing such a good job raising their baby. Are you planning on keeping all three birds? I can't imagine giving up the first baby to a new home.
