Actually, far more than seven swans were swimming. Every time I go to my mother's for a holiday meal, I can't resist a quick visit to the pond were 150 or so Trumpeter swans make their winter home. Today, there was only one bird in the air, and I caught him coming in for a landing. The approach

Extend flaps, wheels down....

And settling in to taxi over to the corn being thrown by visitors

There's almost always someone there throwing corn to the birds. This leads to numerous squabbles and dominance displays

Usually, there's a pretty good selection of other birds hanging around the edges of the trumpeters, but today there were only ring necked ducks. I like the shot because the lighting allows a good display of the ring around the bird's neck

Hope all had a great Christmas

Nice shots of the swan - there's a lot of detail in the wings/feathers. And I can see why you like the picture of the ring neck duck - a pretty bird also.

Hilarious shots on some there. I think the second one should be named "butt down" rather than wheels down.:-)

Glad to hear you had a nice Christmas. We did, too.
