This weekend we made a whirlwind trip to Nashville to visit our son and made a quick drive-through of Shiloh National Military Park. I couldn't help but be struck by the humor implied in this image when I got home and edited

I was not exactly equipped for wildlife shooting, with the DA*50-135 on my K20, but the thought hit me of the incongruity of the situation of this deer and another peacefully strolling through what in 1862 was the fiercest section of the battlefield.

Isn't that overkill for deer hunting?! It is a cute shot though.

Yah! Looks like you weren't the only one not equipped for wildlife shooting.:-)

Nice shot.

When I got back home and looked at this photo, I began kicking myself for leaving my Bigma in the car (about 75 yards away). The distance on this shot was ridiculous for a 135mm lens, but blowing it up to a 100% crop revealed that this is probably the most beautiful buck I've ever had the chance to photograph in the wild.

Isn't that always that case? It is a very good looking buck. And it's why I tend to carry around a big, heavy camera bag!

To have used the cannon would have been overkill (if aimed at the deer), but it would have killed him just as dead as a 30 ought six, and saved the necessity of butchering it, too! :G

I don't know how much cropping you might have done, but I doubt the Bigma would have gotten both the cannon and the buck in the same frame, so count your blessings - you got the shot.
