Took this today (still -10F) with the 300mm 645 lens on the K20D just for fun to see how it compares to the normal lenses I use.

1/350sec @ f.5.6, ISO 400

Can't understand where the softness rumor comes from.

Very sharp indeed! Use a TC? If not then how much crop?

Hey Dawg, no TC, no crop, what you see is what was there. A cooperative Eagle looking over a road kill deer along the road.

Nice shot Tom
It is just as brutally cold in Toronto. Sometimes if you can manage the cold wind, it may be easier to get close shots as they are very agressive in seeking food

Nice weather for taking pictures except for the brutal cold. The lens seems to be really good. Too bad the prices are right there with the new DA* 300mm F4 these days.

I know when I got mine (A*300) it was only $300 and is in like new condition, but then people were into the digital over film thing and the feeling was, MF was not worth the trouble. It looks like MF is coming back as prices are going up to where they were when film was the in thing, and even bodies are going up in price.

IMHO, there is nothing in photography more satisfying than looking at a MF slide on a light table, especially from a 67 and seeing the seemingly endless DR and detail. Send that image to a traditional lab that doesn't scan to print but uses a real darkroom and you will get a 16"x20" or larger print that simply has more detail than you have ever seen before.
